MAKOTO KEDOUIN’s One-Person Indie Game Workshop

Made with RPG Developer Bakin – Dev Blog #6
Sugiuchi:First of all, congratulations on completing the sample game!
KEDOUIN:Thank you very much.
Once again, I really appreciate all the support you gave me with “REINES DU SABBAT.”
Looking back, we’ve worked together several times before, but this was the first project where we went this deep together into the actual content of the game itself. Because of that, while I was very happy, I also couldn’t help but become a bit greedy.
If possible…… I truly wanted to keep adding more. There were far more features we couldn’t include due to time constraints, and more scenarios we had to change midway, than I initially expected.
For example——
– The battle on the Gnoss Plains
– Interaction events with the people in the Town of the Old Ones
– Man-Eater’s Den
– The dungeon content we had planned near the Old Ones, with deeper challenge elements
All of these were things I felt were absolutely essential.
The same goes for the pixel art. I wanted to draw even more action elements that could be used for dashing or combat. Every time I thought, “I can still draw more! I can still make more!”, I’d get completely absorbed—and before I knew it, far more time had passed than expected (laughs).
Sugiuchi:Honestly, I always wanted to let you do exactly what you envisioned. But time and budget are limited….. (laughs).
Deciding which scenarios to keep and which elements to cut was really difficult. As for the pixel art, I honestly felt that if I didn’t say, “Please stop now!”, you’d just keep drawing forever.
KEDOUIN:…..You’re probably right (laughs).
In many situations, I could really feel that you were thinking things through carefully before applying the brakes. For that—and for everything else—I’m truly grateful to everyone on the RPG Developer Bakin team.
Also, being able to release the game simultaneously in English and Chinese this time made me personally very happy.
Sugiuchi:The translation team really went above and beyond. Capturing each character’s tone of voice—and especially lines where Parfi mimics someone else’s way of speaking—was particularly challenging.
And then there were the wordplays….. the pun-like jokes.
It was tough, but now people from many different countries can play “REINES DU SABBAT.” That alone makes me think, “I’m really glad we made this.”
KEDOUIN:I can’t help but hope that some users might even translate it into other languages someday….. (laughs).
Sugiuchi:I’d also love to play derivative works created by users.
KEDOUIN:Yes.I hope people will expand the world of “REINES DU SABBAT” as a shared universe. If that happens, there would be nothing that makes me happier.
This rebuild of “REINES DU SABBAT” is not simply a revival or a remake. The elements we couldn’t include, and the features that were cut, aren’t signs of giving up—they’re proof that the world is still continuing.
I see this rebuild not as the end of the story, but as a starting point to light the fire once again. Watching how this world grows from here, and in what forms, is a joy in itself.
I would be truly delighted if we could grow the world of “REINES DU SABBAT Queen of Sacrifice.” together with all of you, the users of RPG Developer Bakin.
